The Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University, conducted a Community Service activity at MAN Kendal on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the MAN Kendal Library. During this initiation activity, it was announced that several online training sessions would be scheduled around March or April 2026 to ensure that the material was conveyed more comprehensively. This activity carried the theme of improving mathematical skills in preparation for the Olimpiade Sains Nasional(OSN) as an effort to strengthen education-based economic independence. This Community Service Program is designed to systematically and continuously enhance students’ analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to supporting academic achievements, this activity also instills awareness of the importance of mastering mathematics as a foundation for the future. Synergy between universities and schools is the main foundation for the implementation of this activity.
This community service activity was carried out by a team of lecturers from the Undip Mathematics Study Program, consisting of Dr. Moch. Fandi Ansori, S.Si., M.Si. as a lecturer in applied mathematics, Hafidh Khoerul Fata, S.Si., Gr., M.Si. as a lecturer in analytical mathematics, and Nurcahya Yulian Ashar, S.Si., M.Sc. as a lecturer in computational mathematics. The team of lecturers acted as the main facilitators in delivering the material, leading discussions, and discussing strategies for solving OSN problems. This activity also involved students from Diponegoro University as discussion group facilitators for the students. This collaboration between lecturers and students created an interactive and participatory learning atmosphere. This approach is expected to improve student’s conceptual understanding and confidence.
This event was attended by the Principal of MAN Kendal, H. M. Imam Mursid, S.Ag., S.Pd., M.Pd., along with the madrasah leadership, including the Head of Administration and Deputy Principals from various fields. Also present were the MAN Kendal Mathematics OSN guidance teachers who have been actively coaching students. The MAN Kendal library and Undip students also provided full support for the smooth running of the event. The presence of these various elements demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering student academic achievement. The structural support of the school is an important factor in the success of this program.

The series of activities began with an opening ceremony and remarks from the Head of MAN Kendal and representatives from Diponegoro University. The main session of the activity consisted of a briefing on developing problem-solving skills through a review of the 2026 Undip Mathematics Competition(UMC) selection questions. Participants were divided into four study groups to work on and discuss the competition questions collaboratively. Each group was accompanied by lecturers and students to ensure that the discussion process ran effectively. This method was designed to train analytical skills, logical reasoning, and teamwork.
After the group discussion session, the activity continued with a comprehensive discussion of the questions by the Undip Mathematics lecturer team. The discussion did not only focus on the final answers, but also on strategies, variations in methods, and tricks for solving standard OSN problems. The activity then closed with a question and answer session and interactive discussion between students, teachers, and lecturers. The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from the many questions and discussions that developed during the activity. Through this activity, the Undip Mathematics Study Program hopes to strengthen MAN Kendal’s contribution to the OSN event and build ongoing cooperation with MAN Kendal.
