Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, August 14, 2026 — Five Mathematics students from Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), Shalli Duja, Ilham Kurniawan, Matthew Sutrisno, Karolyn Alvani, dan Ach Ali, participated in the Summer School in Mathematical Physics 2026, organized by the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) in collaboration with the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU HCM) from August 10–14, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The participation provided an international academic experience for UNDIP Mathematics students, allowing them to broaden their knowledge of mathematical physics while gaining insights into developments in mathematical research from the perspectives of international academics and researchers. The program was attended by students, young researchers, and academics from diverse backgrounds and institutions.
Throughout the five-day program, UNDIP Mathematics students participated in a range of academic activities, including lecture series, invited talks, discussions, and exercises. Each of the four lecture series lasted approximately 4–6 hours, while the invited talks were conducted in one-hour sessions. These activities provided opportunities for participants to explore the material in greater depth and engage directly in discussions with lecturers and fellow participants.

The topics covered during the program were connected to several areas of mathematics, including partial differential equations (PDEs), geometry, and probability theory. The lectures provided insights into the connections between mathematical concepts and various problems in physics, while also demonstrating how mathematical approaches are applied in contemporary research.
During the program, UNDIP Mathematics students also had the opportunity to attend sessions delivered by academics from leading international institutions. The lecture series were delivered by Alberto Bressan from Pennsylvania State University, Christoph Kehle from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Nicolas Rougerie from CNRS and ENS Lyon, and Rongchan Zhu from Beijing Institute of Technology. The invited talks featured Esteban Cárdenas from the University of Michigan, Akitoshi Hoshiya from the University of Tokyo, Oanh Nguyen from Brown University, Yao Yao from the National University of Singapore, and Xiangchan Zhu from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. Interactions with these academics provided valuable opportunities for the students to gain first-hand insights into emerging topics and current developments in mathematical and physical sciences research.
In addition to the academic activities, participation in the Summer School provided opportunities to interact with participants from different countries. Discussions and exchanges of ideas throughout the program allowed the students to expand their academic networks and gain exposure to diverse backgrounds and perspectives within the international scientific community.

The opportunity to participate in an in-person program conducted in English was also an important part of developing the students’ academic and communication skills. The international environment encouraged them to become more accustomed to engaging in scientific discussions in an international setting and communicating with academics and participants from different countries.
Upon completing the program, participation in the Summer School in Mathematical Physics 2026 provided UNDIP Mathematics students with a valuable new experience in an international academic forum. The knowledge gained, interactions with academics and participants from different countries, and exposure to current developments in research represent valuable experiences that can support their academic development and research interests in the future.
